Our goal is to make learning piano feel easy.
Meet Miss Hannah (left) and Ms. Becca (right), your child's core teaching team at Piano Lab.
If any of these statements are true for you...
Or if your child is just starting out, and you’re not sure what to expect...
You're in the right place.
- I want my child to learn piano, but I'm afraid they will hate lessons.
- I want my child to learn how to practice independently, without getting into arguments about practice.
- I want my child to make music on the piano, not just noise.
- I want piano lessons to be worth the time and money I’ve invested.
Or if your child is just starting out, and you’re not sure what to expect...
You're in the right place.
Your child can thrive with piano, and we can help them succeed.
We feel so fortunate to have found Piano Lab! Our son has studied with Becca for two years, looks forward to his lesson each week, and has grown exponentially not only in musicianship, but in his love for music. Becca is an incredibly gifted teacher--talented, dedicated, supportive, and able to challenge her students in a way that makes them want to achieve. And her love for teaching just shines through! Piano Lab has our highest recommendation. Thank you, Becca!
Here's what makes Piano Lab different:
Piano lessons shouldn't be a source of anxiety for kids.
They should be fun, upbeat, and engaging.
Your child should be able to look forward to lessons every week!
We are committed to teaching in a way that each child feels safe, desired, and supported.
Our lessons are aimed toward growth, improvement, and learning from mistakes.
We help students feel proud and confident about their piano skills.

I found Becca's piano studio by accident on Google, and it was the happiest accident. Under her tutelage my boys have learned so much...in leaps and bounds...in just a few short months. Becca always has something positive to say about each student, and she draws out the best in them. I am so glad we found Becca. We definitely couldn't have chosen a better piano teacher for our boys!
My seven year old loves lessons with Becca. He has been a student for less than one year, and now he often sits down to play without being prompted to practice by Mom or Dad. Becca is efficient and consistent and we are very happy to have found her for piano lessons. Highly recommend!
Why We Left Traditional Lessons Behind
We used to teach lessons in a traditional format. These lessons were held 1-on-1, and usually lasted 30 minutes.
Over time, we noticed a few problems with the "traditional" lesson format:
Over time, we noticed a few problems with the "traditional" lesson format:
1. Students were advancing at slow rates.
In these 1-on-1 lessons, students had my whole, undivided attention during the lesson. Sounds great, right?!
Wrong! With this extra attention students learned to depend on ME to spoon-feed information. They weren't allotted time during the lesson to learn how to problem-solve, or practice independently.
Because of this, children would go home, try to practice, and feel lost without the teacher. Then they would come to lessons with little to no improvement, and the cycle would repeat.

2. Kids were asking the same questions week after week.
"Where do I put my hands?" and "I don't get it," became routine statements.
Kids were forming habits of depending ENTIRELY on the teacher for information, instead of using their own problem-solving skills to navigate a piece of music.

3. Students felt anxious at the piano, and gave up easily.
Many of my students would try out a song during a lesson, make a mistake, and then feel like giving up.
Giving up felt easier than attempting a new song, because they were forced to play for an audience (me) during the whole lesson. They had no privacy to take risks or make mistakes!
I spent so much time during lessons consoling students and giving pep talks, that I knew something needed to change.

Becca's teaching method works very well. My son tells everyone he meets that if they want to take piano lessons it has to be from Ms. Becca because, 'She is the best piano teacher.' I am just so glad that both of my sons choose to experiment with piano at home instead of electronics. Lately they have been trying to learn Bollywood songs to play for their grandparents!

How can children play with confidence if they are offered little to no guidance during practice time?Clearly there is a flaw in the system of traditional piano lessons.
Our goal is to break the unnecessary cycle, with an innovative solution. |
How Children Thrive At Piano Lab
In 2017, I completely reformed my piano-teaching methods.
Our approach reduces students' anxiety, and improves their confidence with piano.
Instead of demanding that kids go home and learn their songs on their own...
Our students learn how to play all of their songs during the lesson. |
|
This means students leave their lessons feeling proud and excited about songs they've already mastered!
This format of piano lessons focuses on SUPPORTING students while cultivating their love for piano.

We help students practice their songs correctly during lessons, so they can play confidently at home!
Remember what I said earlier about the dangers of spoon-feeding information?
In our current piano lesson format, kids work through problems themselves, and advance much more quickly.

Will your child enjoy learning piano?
At Piano Lab, the goal is to help students have fun with piano, while learning in a way that feels easy to them. Students come to the studio for weekly piano lessons at a consistent time, and can expect the following:
Play piano. The best way to learn how to play piano...is by playing piano! In each class, your child will learn to play anywhere from 2-8 songs, and leave knowing how to play their songs correctly. Your child will feel confident and excited about playing piano at home, because they will master their songs during the lesson! |
Celebrate growth.Students at Piano Lab are constantly empowered, supported, and celebrated. At the end of the year, your child will be recognized at the Annual Awards Recital! We distribute certificates, ribbons, and pins for achievements such as graduating levels, completing MMTA exams, and placing in the Statewide Piano Contest. |
